I agree. Bush should not lift Mr. Smarm and his coup d'etat (per George Will) out of the gutter here. Bush still holds the high ground and ought to stay there.

Maybe Americans are concerned, even frightened, by Gore's parade of high-profile lawyers (e.g. Boies and Derschowitz), who have come out in a blatant P.R. attempt to intimidate and coerce opponents, state officials, the American public, and prospective judges. Interestingly, Derschowitz made a quick P.R. blitz but seems to have disappeared. He came off as incredibly arrogant and condescending, which he is, and not unlike Gore. I think his negatives in the public mind are HUGE after the O.J. trial.
