the is no way that greenspan can lower rates to jumpstart the economy...
inflation is speeding up...
if rates are lowered then foreigners would dump their american bonds and sell their dollars...
the only reason that foreigners are still holding US securities is that in their currencies they have not lost as much as us because of the rising dollar...any weakness in the dollar/lower rates will cause redistribution of funds elsewhere...
also if europe raises their rates then people may decide to buy the cheap euro will little downside risk and almost equivalent intersest rates whereas the dollar is more vulnerable...
