Bombardier Adds two Q300 Airliners to Qantas Regional Fleet
TORONTO, ONTARIO--NOVEMBER 15, 2000 - 17:56 EST Bombardier Aerospace has announced an agreement with Qantas Airlines of Australia under which the airline has acquired two 50-seat Q300* turboprop airliners for its regional subsidiary Eastern Australia Airlines.
Value of the contract is approximately $29 million U.S. (Cdn$40.6 million.). Deliveries of the first and second aircraft occurred in September and October respectively.
Eastern Australia Airlines, based at Sydney, operates 17 daily round trips between Sydney and Canberra, the national capital, utilizing 36-seat Dash 8(R) Series 100 and Series 200 aircraft on the 50-minute flights.
"Steady growth in passenger traffic on the route requires a larger capacity aircraft and the Q300 is the best aircraft to meet that requirement," said Bevan Coote, general manager of Eastern Australia Airlines. "Our existing Dash 8 fleet has proven to be reliable, flexible, economical and passenger friendly, so we have no hesitation in once again turning to Bombardier Aerospace for our fleet requirements.
"In addition, the Noise and Vibration Suppression (NVS) on the Q300 will add greatly to passenger comfort," Mr. Coote added.
The Eastern Australia Q300 aircraft are the first of the type to operate in New South Wales. Another Qantas subsidiary, Sunstate Airlines, operates a Q300 from its Brisbane base.
