You may find someone here with the precise answer, but I have a couple of suggestions in the meanwhile:

How do you import the data originally? Do you use Downloader? If so you could convert your downloaded files with one piece of data each (there would be a separate "File" for each, not a separate directory) to an Excel format and make yourself an index of sorts.

Isn't the name of the .dat file the symbol? If this is the case couldn't you use Find>Files and Folders?

If you can phrase this question in a way that just involves the mechanics of finding and identifying your files, you might try asking at
