I cannot remember AMAT preannouncing flat revenue/earnings without earnings then falling off a cliff within the next quarter or two. In early 1996 and 1998 they had essentially flat revenue/earnings for a couple of quarters before their earnings fell dramatically by the July or October quarters. Hopefully they can avoid this scenario in 2000 (e.g. "telecom demand helping to smooth the curve") but I would not count on it.
