Re: In the end, one can easily believe this was a positive development, overall. Just gonna make the country stronger, IMO.

It depends... I think that, insofar as the oncoming Bush presidency will not come too diminished out of its collision with the Bilderberg lobby, we may indeed expect a US leadership stronger than ever. Yet, for such a "happy ending" to unfold, there should be no concessions as regards Bush's top advisers.... If both Gen. Colin Powell and Ms Condoleeza Rice hold out against their Bilderberg surrogates then the Bush administration is poised to reap even greater prestige and credibility both within and without the US.

Domestically speaking, bringing two prominent black figures in the White House will help to soothe racial tensions while, at the same time, be a superb coup by the GOP in its attempt to unhook the black electorate from the Democrat bandwagon. Whereas, geopolitically speaking, America's moral prestige will be unequalled and its diplomatic clout will be strengthened.

Besides, I think the following scrap exposes the petty motive behind the Dems' "Florida nitpicking":

Excerpt:

Former Secretary of State James A. Baker III argued on Wednesday that the ``process is unfair, gives rise to human error, gives rise to the potential for great mischief.''

Baker lamented the proliferation of lawsuits, saying the situation has ``run amok now.''

[...]

Christopher blurted it out.... "in order to protect the rights of the vice president"!!! And what about the right of the American people to have selfless and accountable policymakers?? Does Mr Christopher realize that his customer's lawsuit deals with America's foremost ballot? There's no room here for dragging on the whole dispute in court quibblings. Mr Al Gore behaved like the threatened CEO of a raided corporation: poison-pill strategy, issue of disputable shares, and a desperate search for a white knight....

Gus.
