Hi Gene, I agree with you about the ballot, but I disagree with you about your (implied) support for gvntmnt intervention in women's reproductive functions. you wrote "...Why is it so typical of the Democrats to want to absolve people of such personal responsibilities? They take the same stance on nearly every issue. Take for example abortion: a woman has an inalienable right of choice; should she wish to get pregnant, she can have sex. Should she wish not to get pregnant, she can refuse to engage in the procedure that causes pregnancy. However, the Democrats claim, in essence, that she should not have to be held responsible for such a decision. ..."
If you believe (as I infer from your post that you do) that abstaining from sex is the only acceptable choice a woman should have to avoid pregnancy, and that once a woman is pregnant her only option should be to carry the pregnancy to term, and (importantly) that gvnmnt has a right to use law to impose that belief on women, then I don't see how you can logically object to other impositions by gvnmnt on individuals.
I'd prefer the gvntmnt (and others) keep their grubby hands off other people's bodies and lives and Not try to impose their own beliefs on others who do not share them. ---Imho, It is not appropriate for anyone to try to use gvnmnt as a tool to force their morality on others.
If you think abortion is wrong, then don't get one.
You wrote: <<<...Maybe I'm wrong when I say that people should be held responsible for their own decisions. ..."
I don't like your phrasing. I'd have said "People should take responsibility for their own decisions." Or perhaps "...be responsible for their own decisions."
Your use of "...be held responsible for..." implicitly contains the idea that there are consequences which should be imposed on individuals for their actions based on the judgement of some entity. This is quite different from consequences which are a result of the action of natural forces or circumstances.
<<<"...people should be held responsible..."> for sounds to me like an disgruntled wannabe authoritarian who thinks 'Freedom' means 'freedom for me to make the rules for everyone.'
