While the analogy is good, it's a moot point if they couldn't meet the deadline anyway. That is, if the traffic jam was already forming despite the policeman's order to stop... PB admitted they'd never have made the 5pm deadline. Nor have they given a good reason for the handcount. There has been no fraud. In the interests of voting fairness, I don't see a reason to not allow a handcount. HOWEVER, it is now clear that handcounts are VERY open to suspect behavior and manipulation. Especially when one board of canvassers member has avowedly come out to "rectify" the current problems....and is a Gore supporter.
As for the supposed partiality of Harris, what about Mrs. Butterworth(sorry, love the pun)? Both of these people were their respective candidate's chairpeople. Both, up to now, have been fully respected as generally impartial. Only one had a decision to make here, and she did it - as is within her rights and responsibilities. The other, however, has to manage the lawsuits that are coming out of this. So, both sides are fairly represented and have their own "impartial" advocates. |
