I agree that QC is one of the best long term investments money can buy but I strongly disagree with you view of the real estate market especially in high tech areas such as San Francisco and San Diego. In San Diego for instance housing prices are moving up at 10-20% yearly. This is not a result of a euphoric buying frenzy with investors throwing money at anything moving in an upward direction. It is a well calculated decision in a market where supply and demand are out of wack. For instance in SD we are currently receiving 75K new entrants yearly requiring 30K additional units per year. This year builders will be lucky if they can get 20K new housing permits issued resulting in a net loss of 10K units from the rental housing stock. Vacancy rates are already running below 2% in most areas of SD county. Further reduction in the rental housing stock will only make the situation, ie housing prices, worse not better.

Real estate is very similar to the stock market with regard to supply and demand. Why invest in QC rather than Ericy? Why invest in Verison/Sprit vs AT&T/AWE? All areas/cities are not created equal. Choose your real estate investments just as you would choose a good company by understand the key drivers within the industry or market.
