Extreme Networks Increases Lead in Layer 3 Switch Market to More Than 30 Percent
Leader in Overall Layer 3 and Gigabit Layer 3 Switch Port Shipments
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- For the sixth quarter, Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR - news) held the number one position for overall Layer 3 switch port shipments, owning 30 percent of the market for the quarter ended September 2000, according to prominent industry research firm, the Dell'Oro Group. The Company was also listed as the leader in Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 market with 30 percent of port shipments and 20 percent of revenue.

``The report reflects our incredible growth that within just three years we are supplying one out of every three Layer 3 switch ports,'' said George Prodan, Extreme Networks' vice president of worldwide marketing. ``Our capturing of the number one spot for Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 demonstrates the wide acceptance of our scalable Ethernet solutions that are being deployed in key growth markets, including regional and metro networks, multi-tenant units, service provider co-location centers, content delivery networks and large enterprises.''

The Dell'Oro Group report shows that Extreme Networks is also the number one vendor for the Fixed Layer 3 switch market with more than 50 percent market share for revenue and port shipments. The Company is also one of the top three vendors delivering Modular Layer 3 ports.

During the quarter, Extreme Networks shipped 580,000 ports. The Company has shipped more than 2 million ports in just three years to customers in the service provider, metro networks, e-business, web hosting, large enterprise and multi-tenant unit markets.

The 3Q00 Ethernet Switch Report was published by the Dell'Oro Group today, Nov. 16, 2000. The report covers all manufacturers in the Layer 3 switch market, including Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks and Lucent Technologies.
