Dubya Gossip: I just talked to someone who was present three or four days ago at the Texas Book Festival. This person was going down the receiving line at a gala event and had just arrived at Laura Bush when GW materialized and inserted himself into the line next to Laura. Conversation ensued among Bush and a local newspaper guy and two Texas writers (one of them was Larry Wright) who were being featured at the event. What my friend reports is that when Bush was asked how he was doing, he blurted out, in front of my friend, who was a complete stranger to him, "If they recount the ballots in those counties, I lose, you know."
He also said something about being willing to form a "coalition government," but didn't indicate what that meant. He seemed very angry, and he said in reply to a question about whether he was talking to Gore that Gore had told him he was conceding and then took it back, and he never wanted to talk to him again.
That's the whole story. Not much to it, I'm aware, so don't bother to tell me that, anybody. It's interesting that he said he'd lose. |
