Scumbria, I'm not going to argue with you on this matter. But you are kidding yourself IMO. All of this will become clear when people see these machines running graphics applications, CAD application, 3-D games , Continuous speech recognition with real time indexing, streaming video applications. The performance improvements are very large and quite noticeable. By the way, existing applications can be recompiled using the P4 compiler to obtain the benefit of the new instructions. What Otellini said was that the P4 is on a par with the P3 clock for clock. Add the new instructions and one obtains a phenomenal performance boost. boards.fool.com
