Michael,
The Supreme Court Judges have to be confirmed by Congress. So the President is not free to appoint Judges freely. That is a scare plank in the political platform. Besides, most judges who are politically motivated wait until their party is in office to retire. I do not believe they have a set retirement age. If Gore is elected, they wait out his term. If Bush is elected, they wait out his term. So you are not going to change any future Supreme Court rulings.
