Here's a much more convincing argument for the permanent death of e-commerce than a desperation make-the-rent screed from some veiny-nosed Canadian alky professor with one side of his collar caught under his tie, who passed out right after he clicked on "Send".

I just got a junk email from Amazon.com promising to refund $150 on any $100 purchase (or something like that) from "Ashford.com", which I guess is one of AMZN's money-hose acquisitions. They sell watches; sort of like the e-commerce equivalent of the guy on 7th Ave. standing in front of a card table full of fake Rolexes (I think they even have a 3-card Monte Java applet on the site so you can go double or nothing on the watch). But here's the beauty part, and I swear I am NOT making this excerpt up:

If for some unimaginable reason you do not receive your order the next day for eligible items, Ashford.com's CEO, Kenny Kurtzman, will send you a gift of roses (see Web site for details).

Imagine that! If for some unimaginable reason your watch is part of the 20% of packages that are delayed during the holidays, you get roses from Kenny Kurtzman himself right after your wife walks out. Jackpot! I wonder what Kenny does for you if your order is TWO days late!? But let's not go there.

IMHO this bodes ill for internet infrastructure providers.
