NY weather has been the same, one crappy day after another, heavy cloud cover that rain doesn't dispel, yuck!
Well I know something about molds in houses, both from research/writing project, and experience. Definitely need to find the source, i.e. some kind of water leak, especially check the outside around the ground, some houses aren't sealed properly and when it rains water seeps in. Some other things that are palliative:
1) Dehumidifers. You might want to consider a big one on each floor with tubing that you run to the outside (have to cut a small hole in the wall). It won't get the source of the mold but will stop any spores from proliferating, thus help any allergies
2) An ozone machine. It kills mold. But it's not healthy so you have to run it while you're out of the house or room, for say half a day, and then turn it off and open windows and let it disperse for an hour or two before you come back into the house. Very effective though.
3) Austin air filters, which contain hepa air filters plus something called zeolite. Very good for air quality, i.e. in bedroom. |
