NVIDIA Crush chipset details

NVIDIA Big Bang for the Buck

Here are some details on NVIDIA®'s upcoming integrated chipset "Crush" for the Athlon/Duron:
PC1600/PC2100/PC2600 DDR SDRAM support
Integrated graphics based on GeForce2™ MX
External AGP 4x support
800Mbps interbridge LDT bus designed by AMD®
ATA-100 support
10Mbps/100Mbps Ethernet controller
AC'97 interface
5 PCI slots

NVIDIA® will announce the first two versions of the Crush chipset later this month. One version will have a 64-bit memory bus, while the other will have a 128-bit memory bus. On boards based on the more expensive 128-bit memory bus version of Crush, the DDR SDRAM DIMM modules have to be installed in pairs.

Initially, Crush will be for Athlon/Duron. NVIDIA® plans to make a Pentium III/Celeron II version of Crush, as soon as the company secures a bus license from Intel®. The AMD® version of this chipset will likely be very popular with OEMs, since systems based on it will offer astonishing performance for the money.

The southbridge of the Crush chipset, the MCP-1, will also be used in Microsoft®'s upcoming X-Box game console. Later versions of the MCP southbridge are expected to have USB 2.0 support and integrated hardware sound. The Crush chipset will of course use the later versions of MCP when they become available.

A Dual channel DDR 2600 chipset with LDT coming this month? Sound almost too good to be true...
