Actually and oddly enuf, the production sequence is 9N, 2N, 8N so the 8N should have all the bells and whistles. I can't exactly remember if the PTO just turned when the clutch was engaged or whether there was a separate "switch" for that. The 3pt had an on/off lever.
This one didn't have power steering, that's for damn sure. In fact, I can't find any reference to stock power steering on any N. A common complaint it seems, especially with a front loader. Maybe if you stomp on the brake on one side or the other it'll help considerably.
I would want a rear mower, brush hog, or whatever.
This one seemed pretty spiffed up with some new looking electrical parts, new exhaust system. The new paint makes me skeptical but the motor started right up, didn't smoke, spit or sputter and had plenty of pull in high range 3rd. Askin' $4500.00 which seems comparatively high though well worth it if the works inside match the exterior.
Ns, 60 year old beauts. They seem sort of like VW Bugs in the Tractor world. Ubiquitous, hardy, reliable, simple, with plenty of available parts to keep 'em going. What other older tractors are in that class?
I really want a tractor. I'm like a little kid. I think about it a lot. How happy I'd be sitting on a 20hp ton of torque a'mowin' and a'tillin'. Atillin the Hun. Life would be grand. |
