Yes, I agree, that Gore's offer of a state wide hand count was a brilliant gesture. If he had not done it, it would have shown him in a bad light. That was the grandiose gesture I was talking about.

It does not change the fact that he is behind, and it is very much easier for him to make that grandiose gesture --- he has nothing to lose here. This is his hail mary play.

I looked at pictures of that butterfly ballot and saw the arrows next to the circles. It's a stretch to assume anyone knows what real votes for Buchanan are. It would be impossible for anyone to figure out what really happened there, and a revote is also impossible to justify --- it disenfranchises the rest of the country's voters. Gore's camp looked at all the facts pertaining to the butterfly ballots and made the right call --- there was nothing they can do --- another grandiose gesture. Much better PR than Bush.

I also noticed that Bush's legal counsel was much more boring than Gore's on TV. Bush's counsel kept going on about points of law, interim judgments, boring legalese. Gore's counsel extrapolated the judge's legal judgments and made it appear that the Bush camp are the evil ones here trying to steal an election, when both are just as manipulative and duplicitous in their intent (Gore's PR is coming across much better here).
