Democrats Consider Extortion Democrat Investigates GOP Electors, Seeks Converts for Gore A powerful Democrat is investigating the background of Republican electors and hopes to "persuade" them to vote for Al Gore when the Electoral College meets, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. "It is information-gathering on my part, using my own network," said Democrat consultant Bob Beckel, admitting that he launched this strategy shortly after the Nov. 7 election. "I call on mostly Democrats, but some Republicans, too, and ask, 'Who are these electors, and what do you know about them?'
