US Citizenship - it isn't just for Imperialist Oppression anymore.

I remember when I was a kid, we were taught to believe that the USofA was the greatest possible country in the world. I guess we can still stomp the bejeezus out of just about anyone, but without the resolve to do so, what's the point? I might as well live in Australia and get away from the evangelists, as well as most of the conservatives and liberals. Or France - We give up, don't bomb Paris. Or Japan - where all the kids really do think alike. Or Zaire - where I could afford a farm the size of New Jersey. Or England...OK, not England.

I've quit thinking of myself as a US Citizen.... I make stuff that gets sold all over the world. I eat stuff from all over the world. Why just this morning, a 747 flew in from Singapore with a belly full of Durian. My passport says "American", but my stomach says "Mmmm - smelly fruit".

It sometimes seems that the borders between Philips and Sony and General Electric are more real than the lines separating countries. So who cares if the schools in San Jose teach in English, Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese? As long as they can get a job and stay off welfare!....I still pay taxes here after all!
