"available" versus "owns". And makes no difference to my central argument. Think of the current military doctrine: zero personnel losses is the working goal. Did our military send a bunch of snipers into Kosevo? No, everything was accomplished as remotely as possible. They regarded the Serbian army as equal to our own, for planning purposes.

If the US Military were to go against the US citizenry, they would use the same "overwhelming force" method, realizing how many ex-personnel reside in the citizen population.

When the "right to bear arms" was written into the Constitution, the ownership of guns was astonishingly small. Research the recent article in the Smithsonian Magazine.
