Let's hope that just the shortcut disappeared and not the whole application. Use Find and look for WINWORD.EXE, and if you find it, click it, and with any luck, Word will open. If you don't find WINWORD.EXE, you may need to re-install it from CD.

If you must install from CD, be sure to have your Product ID, that multi-digit code required for installation. If you can't find it, check your registry. The key is:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Word for Windows\97.1.00819(1033)\Registration]
"ProductID"="999999-OEM-9999999-99999"
"ProductName"="Microsoft Word for Windows"

If you find it, copy it down. (I've changed my ID to all nines, and edited out some sub-keys for simplicity.)

Hope this helps, PW.
