He's been at ORCL 14 years. He's so rich that unless he's obsessed by it, he doesn't work for money. It was unlikely that he'd get to run ORCL, even if Larry ever retires (and Larry has signed on for at least 4 more years). I don't think that it's so hard to understand someone in his position wanting to be top dog someplace. It's not as if he's left to go to a bad company. He sure made a better choice that Eric Schmidt...
