HI Eric,
The majority of shareholders of NT stock such as Bell Canada Enterprises, Barclays Bank PLC, various mutal funds and teachers retirement funds are not of the typical profile that post on this site.. The present price of the stock keeps out the small investor and as to the likelyhood of splitting I do not see the need below $100. I have not seen the report on the shareholders meeting ( I do not know if it has occured as yet) so I do not know if one has been approved. I will have to check to see if the maximum number of shares allowed will permit this. A favourable indicator though is that the parent company BCE split recently.
Order input seem to be well over last year in particular for fiber optic equipment. A fiber backbone for $150M wth OC-48 tribs was sold recently to Qwest and others could be in the works. The rise in the stock price is probably an adjustment to compensate for the 11% earnings surprise and the realization that 1997 earnings could be better than consensus $3.06 maybe $3.25? Access Node Express was anounced last wednesday the 21st in Richardson TX ( the day of a major move of the stock ). OC-3 orders are picking up and a supply agreement has been announced with PRMS.
Attendees at meetings in house are generally requested to be discreet about what is discussed because of the competitive nature of the business.
