Kevin -- main reason institutions (and others) would buy KREM shares at these (some think) "lofty" levels :

Scarcity !

I used to have a fairly significant shareholding in an Internet "content provider" that is highly regarded amongst those who can tell the difference between Internet plays like DrKoop.com and companies that actually have a chance.

(I was a shareholder of Hoover's Inc. (HOOV), which is the company that produces Hoover's Online (a website)).

HOOV's share price has plunged (along with the rest of the group). One of the best explanations I have heard for this was :

There are now about 400 publicly traded "Internet" companies.

At the time HOOV went public (July 1999), there was only a fraction of 400 Internet companies already publicly traded. (I do not know what the exact "count" was back then).

It is very difficult for investors to "work themselves into a 'lather' " over the prospect of owning a piece of HOOV right now.

Contrast this with Krispy Kreme.

If someone (at the margin) wants to invest in a possible emerging "icon" company, with over 60 years of "buzz" (goodwill) behind it, in the snack (?) food / restaurant business, ...

How many stocks are there to compete with KREM as their choice ?

I cannot think of a single one.

There is probably some company out there, but I am not aware of it.

Jon.
