Michael, my argument is that all counties, all voters should be counted 100%. If not then as closely as possible. It is a smallish scandal to me that the law anticipates less than 100% accountability for everyone's votes and accepts it as though close enough is ok. Then they turn around and wonder why there is apathy and people act like their vote doesn't count. (Well, by damn not every vote does count.)

To make the rather specious argument that it is ok to be less than 100% or not as close to it as we can get in such a close election for all the counties that we can, puts you on the side of wanting to elect by condoning conscious disenfrancisement. There is only one person that should bear the blame for there not being recounts in all counties in addition to the ones Gore requested. That is none other than George Bush. Gore has offered to agree to recounts in these other counties. But Bush has painted himself in a fool's corner by his rush to strictly adhere to Florida statutes and proclaim himself the winner, while trying to block further recounts. How can he now accept such an offer, the very offer that may have worked to his benefit had he made it before Gore? It's his dilemma. It is his hypocrisy. He can stew in his own juices, because he mishandled the situation from the beginning.
