Must be easy to steal voting machines in Florida...
11/17 16:29 Men Arrested for Stealing Palm Beach Ballot Machine, CNN Says By Amy Strahan
Washington, Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Two men were arrested yesterday for stealing a Palm Beach County voting machine and attempting to sell it online at eBay, the Cable News Network reported.
A Palm Beach County election supervisor notified the Florida Department of Law Enforcement when she discovered the machine for sale, CNN said. An undercover law enforcement officer posted a message pretending to be an interested buyer. When the officer then called about the prospective sale, the men upped their asking price to $20,000.
The undercover agent met with the men to see the machine and ballot and negotiated the price back down to $4,000 before arresting them last night, CNN said.
Unlawful possession of a voting machine is a felony, the news network reported. According to the Florida police, the men confessed to taking the voting machine from the Winston Trails Clubhouse in Lake Worth, Florida, on Nov. 9, where it was being stored until workers from the elections department could pick it up, CNN said.
The accuracy of the machines and Palm Beach County's controversial ``butterfly ballot'' are critical in the U.S. presidential election stalemate between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore.
