Hi Doug! Regarding the missing postmarks. The post office has a rule. Postage stamps must be cancelled. This is usually done with the post mark. However, if the absentee ballot envelope is larger than standard size, it is possible that the ballot may not have gone through their cancelled stamp machine. Another scenario could be that the PO knew the importance of these ballots getting to Florida in time. They may have circumvented the system in an attempt to process the mail quicker. Most postal workers probably aren't aware that the post mark must be on the ballot in order to legitimize the vote. My final scenario, and one I hope isn't true, is that the postal workers union is very active in the political process. The postal union "strongly" urged their members to vote for Gore. The union members were told a vote for Bush would lead to privatization of the PO and the end of their union. The motive was there if someone felt the urge. Again, I don't think this occurred, but the thought did cross my mind after reading about the Miami PO diverting absentee ballots to the democrats. dabum
