The Republicans are out of their depth in this ground war. They're up against tough savvy operators, many of whom are hustlers and shakedown artists back home. The genteel Republican observers in those rooms don't have the seasoning these guys do. The Republicans are up against killers, really. And it seems to me the Supreme Court's intervention in this raises serious questions about separation of powers. They have revealed their bias. But I remain optimistic. There have been so many turns in this sordid saga, I predict that something totally unpredictable will happen.
