True enough. That's the beauty of the electoral college. The statiscal meaninglessness of the popular vote would have required a national recount (ugh!).

BTW, while it's still early and unclear (and anything can happen), it doesn't look like Gore will get the votes he needs.

Another interesting twist will be historical precedent. Assuming other cases can be brought to bear, Bush will likely win. An interesting op/ed piece in the NYT today had a Dem who lost in Massachusetts writing in about his "chad" experience. He won the recounts, but a review by a judge of some 600 ballots overturned his victory, due to the interpretation of "dimples".

This is going to get even uglier, I have no doubt.
