Bush has said that one of the two Supreme Court Justices he most admires (and is the sort of advisor who's opinion Bush would presumably defer to) is Clarence Thomas. Whatever your opinion of Thomas's political views, he is not generally considered a shining light of clear thinking. Bush seems to be more interested in the political leanings of his advisors than their competence.

Although he has said the two Supreme Court justices he most admires are the court's most conservative voices, President Ronald Reagan appointee Antonin Scalia and his father's controversial appointee Clarence Thomas, Bush has said he will not make abortion a judicial litmus test.
