Windsock,

A couple of election suggestions for four years from now:

- Have polls open nationwide the same hours, regardless of time zone (somebody on this thread suggested that, and it's a great idea).

- Start Internet voting. Somewhere around 35% of Americans have an Internet connection, so it would take a lot of pressure off the polling places. The counties could buy touch screen machines, I would gladly put a few bucks of my taxes towards this expense. Results could probably be tabulated within an hour of the polls closing, eliminating the need for exit polling. Overseas ballots could be voted by individual Internet connections or at the US Embassy.

- Eliminate the electoral college. (there are good arguments on both sides of this debate)

Certainly, within the next four years, we could figure out a secure and reliable Internet voting system. The politicians might not like the idea as it could spread to voting on specific issues, and that threatens to turn the Republic into a Democracy.

I think that change is needed is obvious.

John
