The thing is, W is likely to follow his father's footsteps and dig up another "best man for the job" when the next SC vacancy comes up. One who, like Thomas at his confirmation hearings, has never, ever, given a thought to Roe v. Wade and is willing to swear to that under oath. Clarence Thomas couldn't possibly have lied under oath, could he have?
