Eric L: Isn't the real world for the data / internet connection for which the widgets at Comdex could be used near term the world of 1X and 1xEV? Yet the discussions seemed to be in terms of the potential delay of 3G - meaning GSM land - while CDMA land was largely ignored. Why?

One major problem of focus and understanding is that 3G seems to be discussed in the context of GSM land. Therefore the stories about slow and expensive roll out.

That in Asia the beginnings of 3G are on their way seems to be misunderstood. It is still amazing to see the number of stories that DoCoMo will be "first" with 3G next May while the path for KDDI for 1x and 1xEV is rarely mentioned.

It is also fascinating to see the way reporters use sources from either GSM land or CDMA land, but rarely both.

There is still a major gap in perceptions.

Since you know Europe well, could you help us understand why so many US stories (particularly the East Coast based) seem to use European derived sources, info, and data while Qualcomm and CDMA are seldom discussed at all in those stories?

Still puzzling to me.

Best as always.
