It is still amazing to see the number of stories that DoCoMo will be "first" with 3G next May while the path for KDDI for 1x and 1xEV is rarely mentioned. Chaz, although the technology war is probably over, the problem of rolling out new applications that make the new technology functionally superior to the old remains. KDDI's plight is a case in point. It's possible that new applications that are predicated on 3g's bandwidth advantages will await the roll out of WCDMA, and kluged together "fun apps" that work on GSM will hold sway for the near term. Timing is everything and I think that the GSM camp have effectively delayed the arrival of 3G dependant apps simply by creating a mind set that 3G won't be here for awhile. There is a certain inherent power in owning 80% of the world market. Pierre
