Dan, I think the best evidence of the demise of Socialism in the US was Hillary's socialized medicine fiasco. That got absolutely nowhere. It was way left of the Dems, let alone the Reps. The "left" may have a lot of prominence in the press, as you say, but it's more the social (tolerant/world community/multicultural) left, not the socialIST (unions/wealth redistribution) left. Even black leadership has started to shift toward the center. I think you're beating an dead horse worrying about socialism. Yeah, the populace is still drawn to Uncle Sugar, which is a danger, like inflation, that cannot be ignored, even when it's dormant. But the control freaks on a mission, the ones gaining momentum, IMO are now coming from the right.
