Unbelievable, I don't even mean with regards to how long we as humans have been here; by OUR measure of course that a long time. What I means is how long we have been at our current pattern of behavior and that is VERY SHORT by any measure. Like I said; only a bit past my own great grandparents time. But it is really MUCH less than that; about ONE lifetime since we began to profoundly change the world in new and unpredictable ways. And a lifetime is the blink of an eye! When Jefferson died mankinds influnce on the world was extremely marginal; 75 yeasy later at the turn of the last century it was considerable, and now 100 years hence many times greater and increasing. If this was an experiment in a test tube the experminter would have to say that at this point in the experiment no data points could be plotted yet; he will expect a reaction, after all the reaction is exothermic.
