I can certainly see not advertising the 1x capabilities of the handsets at this point, but don't see why they shouldn't sell them. I must be missing something. Any ideas?

Anecdotal evidence from the Michigan area would suggest that the wireless carriers are focusing on out-pricing each other for Christmas. Some of the deals Verizon and Sprint are offering are amazing. 1800 minutes (300 weekday and 1500 night and weekend) with no long distance for $29.95. 3600 minutes for $49.95.

It appears the plan is to sell the crap out of their service with as low a price as possible. They build their customer base and then migrate those customers over to more expensive services and handsets when they are available. You don't talk about future services that may be offered and thereby encourage people to wait to buy.

It is getting very interesting. For 100 bucks, you could have two wireless phones with a total of 7200 minutes of use. That is 5 days worth of yaking. I doubt that the TDMA and GSM carriers will be able to keep up with this pricing scheme.I'm beginning to get a little worried about LWIN with this kind of aggressive pricing. Of course, LWIN's service isn't limited to the time of day.
