Oblomov, I really like your post! I have never been to Brazil but have been to other places where constantly guarded and patrolled gated communities are the norm for the wealthy (heck, even for the struggling middle class, clerks, schoolteachers, ect.) and for the very wealthy, as necessary as a bank account is armed bodyguards, even "private armies". One thing though that took me quite a while to figure out is that in some of those places its a little more complicated than meets the eye and it may be this way in Brazil: In these places the wealthy pay little or no taxes; if the government, even a populist government puts pressure on the rich there is then massive capital flight. So a sort of bargain is struck, the government provides literally nothing in the way of security or "policing services" for the rich and in turn the rich pay almost no taxes. Would that work here? It would be interesting, for sure. WSR
