That was my point exactly. She had the authority, and thus should have taken the governor's lead by recusing herself.

One thing that is clear to me as a result of this discussion is that, as I said earlier, the Florida election laws are a mess. In addition to the conflicting statutes I pointed out earlier, there is no statewide standard for what type of chads should be counted in a manual recount, and there is no requirement that manual recounts for statewide offices should be conducted on a statewide basis, which creates the obvious potential for inequity. Considering all that, is it any wonder that the parties are at each other's throats in the canvassing boards, the courts, and the media?
