crow, i don't know about teachers' unions involvement in politics, but i do remember being in the IWA [international woodworkers of America] over twenty years ago and seeing my union dues go toward electing an NDP government in BC ... the NDP being about the most socialistic entity here which gets countable votes ... i didn't think much of that ... don't know their current policy, but unions all over get involved in politics, the Labour party in the UK was virtually indistinguishable from the Wobblies a few decades ago.

The Ontario teachers' union has a pension fund that is a powerful force in this country, they put out their own releases on Canada Newswire, they own enough of some companies to be forced to declare the interest ... they certainly have the money to influence politics, i'd be interested too in the extent to which they try.

"At least 38% of the people in Canada provided the 'majority'
for the present government- far better than the US.
"

I'm not sure that's true - perhaps 38% of the voters in the last election, but not of the electorate for sure ... i don't know the voter participation stats, but i suspect they are not much better than yours, if at all ... it has been said that apathy is a problem in this country, but nobody get real riled up about it, so i guess that's ok, if no one really cares -g-
