The private payments thing looks cool...I might have to sign up for it to see how easy/convenient it really is. What I can't seem to decipher is whether or not the merchant actually sees the ## as well.

The thing I like about the ECNC device is that the merchant website never sees your card number. I love the idea of being able to swipe my ATM card (or VISA) directly on my machine and fund my Brokerage Acct, or pay my mortgage. ECNC's concept will require another paradigm shift for consumers (just like it was 4 years ago when you first could enter your credit card # online).

The main caveat in my mind is whether or not the ECNC managment can handle this :>) Remains to be seen...

I'll let ya know if I get my Amex card signed up.

I agree with you COMPLETELY that the consumer should NOT have to pay for the eCashpad.
