There is another factor in terms of news beyond the leakage Dave referred to. Sure, some news is really out of the blue and has a huge surprise impact. I find these items to be the exception rather than the rule. However, the same piece of news - as we've all seen - can either be interpreted wildly bullishly or wildly bearishly depending on the tone of the markets, etc. That's one of the reasons why I have a hard time trying to interpret/trade on news and basically avoid it as much as I can.
