For one, you're assuming that you'll come back to your paper gains sooner than the potential returns in some other area over that same period of time.

There's no way of guessing one's potentials vs. the future of any particular stock. You already bought the shares, now you're going to flush part of your original investment just because Mr. Market is throwing another tantrum. Here's hoping you bought a decent company to begin with....
