You may want to check the power supply. It may sound likes it's running , with the sound of the fan. But the actual power supply to the motherboard may be burned out.I've seen this before with one of my backup machines .But as soon as I did a voltage check on the motherboard , I could see that no voltage was being supplied. Your sympton are almost identical to what I was experiencing , especially the blank screen. The sound of the fan, tends to make one not expect anything is wrong with the board .But the voltage supply for the board and fan is seperate and will allow one to continue running when the other one is defective.
