Re: collections of stupid quotes - the ones I've seen are usually titled "Quotations from Chairman ____" - I have seen, for example, Quotations from Chairman Bill. For some reason, these little nuggets stick in the mind, probably because they are easier to remember than the complex events of the day.
I mean, what does anyone remember about Grover Cleveland, other than "Ma, Ma, Where's My Pa, Gone to the White House, Ha, Ha, Ha."
So we shouldn't be surprised if, for example, Reagan is forever associated with the declaration by the USDA, under his administration, that ketchup is a vegetable. The fact that Reagan had nothing to do with that declaration is irrelevant. It's a great factoid that has become part of the Urban Legends that we carry around in our minds instead of real history.
And the fact that Gore didn't really say he *invented* the Internet, is also irrelevant. If he didn't, he should have, and therefore, he did.
