ng, it does us no good at all to underestimate the competition and I am sure AMD does not. From what we have seen the P-4 is early in it's cycle and will get optimised many more times over the next 3-4 years, so we might see it at 3 Ghz in 3 years. AMD has certainly obtained samples and is examining them for whatever they can see. Their counter product is far along and will/may exceed the p-4??
Right now we are into a 1-2 year share battle with assorted segments. It is lucky that AMD has the huge sustaining flash business that will be a cash cow for the next 2-3 years as we are entering another phase where Intel has a high end product with no direct AMD equivalent and so Intel will rape their clients, as usual, and use that extra $$ to lower the ASP of the low end....as they have done before.
Now AMDs urgent tasks are to assault both this high end P-4 redoubt as well as the Xeon server zone with SMP products. Even intel lacks SMP for the P-4 and that will take 2 years for full qualification, so AMD has a window in that area.
