Just got off the phone with a rep from HY-TEK and heard some interesting things....similar to what we have heard from Robert and Fred!
He stated that the advance orders for Treo are much larger than anticipated. Deliveries of those advance orders will be in late Jan. Treo will hit the retail shelves at Best Buy, CompUSA, and Circuit City in late Feb., but will be available online earlier at these companies' websites.
The prices will all be within $10, plus or minus, of the current $399.
I asked if the Treo will be HY-TEK branded. He said that they will have one out with their name on it, BUT...they were working with several parties, OEMs, much larger than themselves, who will be bringing out virtually identical versions of Treo under their own brand names. I, of course, asked who they were and he responded that, due to non-disclosure agreements, he wasn't able to say, but added that I would recognize them immediately. I said then that these must be well known brands and he responded with a strong affirmative.
He volunteered that, within 30 days of the initial shipments, a 20GB version would become available at a premium of $150. Additionally, they anticipate having both a 30GB and a 40GB model available in 2001.
Much of this is already known but I found it interesting to confirm directly from HY-TEK.
By the way...mom and baby Troy are doing very well! I had to return to work to get some rest!!! |
