A recent article in Atlantic Monthly argues that only 5% of the French go to church (according to historian Besancon), and Islam is close to surpassing Roman Catholics. It points out that anti-(Islamic)- clericalism is getting very heavy indeed. It seems doubtful to me that France can reasonably be called a Christian country.
