I don't. It's obvious the apps will need the benefit of new compilers if they are going to show benchmark improvment. I for one don't care at what speed my wordprocessor waits for the next keystroke. I'm interested in future applications, not old ones. Re: "I think the raw clock speed may compensate for these shortcomings, that's why I think Intel will need to maintain about 30% lead in clock speed to remain competitive in performance" They have a ~30% advantage now and they are competitive now on old code without the benefit of software optimizations. 33% more headroom on the current process while AMD's wheels are about to fall off.
